Well, if you buy leather, you're effectively increasing the demand for leather, increasing the demand for cows, and if you increase the demand for cows, supply will likely increase a little bit, too.

Gelatin is a by-product, would you eat gelatin? I think leather should be thought of in the same light. You're not eating it, but you are wearing it, and in a small way supporting the beef industry. The more money they make selling by-products, the more money goes into the wallets of people not lifting a finger to change factory farm conditions.

right down to the point, the whole cow is used. however, leather is the by-product of it. my sister is completely vegan, and says that it is okay to wear shoes made of leather. happy shoe shopping!

There are lots of nice imitation-leather shoes out there, if you look hard. Another option to consider (and this does not sit well with everyone!) is trying to find your ''fashionable'' leather items used. The theory being that the demand for the item is created by the person who bought it new, and subsequent owners are merely preventing waste. I am not sure I buy into it myself, but it is something to think about and decide for yourself.

first, with the whole ''free range organic eggs''...let me educate you. the government does not regulate what can be ''free range'' & what can not. just because somthing has ''free range'' on it does not mean that it is truly ''free range''. & organic.psh, have u seen factory farms??? i suggest dropping eggs. that is my goal.

there r plenty of awesome shoes that ar not made of leather. u just have to look. i have some awesome shoes from Jurneys. it is all cloth & rubber..no leather. also, most converses have no leather. some shoes r made of canvas. just look around a bit.

cows are used for many, many things. Steaks, cheek meat, hamburger meat, too many to name. The whole cow is used!
