When can i start giving my 9 mth old baby Cows Milk

Anything I've read says 12 months. The reasoning is to insure your baby is digestive system is matured enough to handle cows milk (whole milk).

Closer to 12 months I started my baby with mini yogurts and a little bit of cottage cheese chunks.

The doctor says it is safe at 12mos.not before.

Your baby is ready when the doctor say so. A good idea is to put Nesquik chocalate for flavor. My baby is nine months old and that is what she likes

You really need to wait until a year old, but after reading some of the responses to your question, I do not think you should listen to any of us. ASK YOUR PEDIATRICIAN! Do not trust your child is health to a bunch of strangers. Some of the responses are so off-YIKES!

As other posters have mentioned its suggested as 1 year. I started giving it to my son at 11 months. Personally, if your baby has no issues with any other foods or anything I'd bet he/she would be fine with 1/2&1/2 right now or maybe even 75% 25% to start.

As a side note, my sister had a bad formula allergy when she was born and my mother gave her whole cows milk right from the beginning. She is 42 years old now and has never had any major health issues.

Wait till the baby is at least one year. Giving her cows milk before then could really upset her stomach since she can not properly digest it.

Babies are not supposed to get cows milk before 12 months old (older if there are food allergies in the family). Many babies are allergic to dairy, and, if you introduce it before the first birthday, you can make it from a normal infant allergy into a life-time one.

My opinion. Cows milk is not as easy to digest. Go with goat is milk. there are powdered forms in cans and of course the fresh stuff is best. I gave Goat Milk to my children and found less ''spitting up'' occuring and far less crying from upset stomachs soon after feeding even less than formula.

The American Pediatrics Academy recommends cow is milk only after the 1st birthday. So once your baby turns one, you can go ahead and give whole milk, and whole milk only. Some babies transition to cow is milk easy without mixing. But some have to mix. So it just depends on your baby.

There is really no benefit to giving cow is milk prior to 1 year. There r however, downsides. The main one is that kids under a year tend to drink a lot of milk, & cow is milk does not have enough bioavailable iron. In fact, it has the ability to render the iron in the formula less bioavailable also.

The bottom line is kids who take significant amounts of cow is milk for more than a month prior to age 1 tend to end up anemic at their 1yo checkup. This is why we recommend waiting until 1 year.

A little every now & then in the form of cheese or yogurt is fine. But keep the baby on formula till at least a year.

If you're concerned about the cost and also want to be safe -look for 'older baby' formulas which are for babies over 6 months of age. These are fortified and taste the same as the formula they like but at about half to a third of the cost.

about 12 months is pretty safe to start introducing cow is milk. They do not have the enzymes in their body to break it down properly till then.
